Inyinya Grocery is purposed to solving some of the harmful food and produce handling habits in the Nigerian food produce and distribution chain. The main goal being to help families gain access to food that is free from hazardous preservation, cleaning and adulteration for higher profit.
Founded by Diaspora Nigerians who were miffed by the unchecked practice of adding, treating, and force-ripening of fruits with harmful substances by local producers and middlemen, the founders, with help of a strong talented team of local youths, embarked on the journey of changing the narrative of unwholesome food handling practices prevalent in the country.
Over the last 8 months, starting with the first distribution centre in the densely populated mainland of Lagos, Nigeria’s main commercial city of roughly 20 million people, the team have forged ethical food processing and handling partnerships with farmers, producers and suppliers, ensuring that the Nigerian consumer have access to safe food.
The company has championed and pioneered a simple process for cleaning the yellow shell stains and dirt which is transferred to the melon seed kernel after they have been peeled by locally fabricated machines, eliminating the prevailing harmful practice of washing the seeds with caustic soda, mixed in laundry detergents, such as the local branded OMO and Klin detergents, a habit prevalent among local melon (Egusi) seed producers and traders.
